The bes route when you get to Calgary is take highway 1 to Bannf. When you leave take highway 1 which will turn into highway 93 and head over to Jasper national par. From there you can take highway 16 to Kamloops. There you have a choice of heading up 16 to Vancouver or you can take highway 97 down through Vernon Kelowna penticton and visit the wine country. From penticton you can then head across through Princeton to vancouver. Very beautiful trip. I was raised in the rockies of Alberta and British Columbia.go to good sams trip planner to find campgrounds enroute
Dave, assuming you are crossing into Canada at Sault St Marie and heading along the north shore of Lake Superior towards Winnipeg Manitoba I'll give you some comments and campground links, it's a route we take each summer to visit our kids and grand kids who live in northern Ontario.
If you want to camp in Sault St Marie Ontario, the KOA there comes recommended we haven't stayed there but have hears good things.
Going north, Lake Superior provincial park has some great scenery and pictographs. We used to camp there with smaller RVs but we tried once with our RW and got it scratched up from overhanging tree branches. You may want to camp in Wawa and go back to LSPP to tour and check it out. The Wawa RV "resort" is a former KOA, it's not memorable but has 50 amp and water and an RV dump.
Near Marathon there is Pukaskwa National park, beautiful Superior scenery and fantastic hiking trails. They have a few larger back in sites and a pull through, 30 amp electricity only, you can fill your water tank at the comfort station and use the RV dump.
If you want full services, the RV park in Marathon (Penn Lake) run by the town has full services and is on a small lake. Neys Provincial Park west of Marathon has large sites (30 amp only) right on the edge of Superior, it's busy in the summer though.
From there we hit the Thunder Bay KOA, a nice park and presidents award winner.
West of Dryden Ontario in Vermilion Bay there is a small park with full services (50 amp) called Crystal Lake RV park, right on a small lake.
From there it's a short run to Winnipeg Manitoba where you can stay at Travelers (re-named, see link), full services and handy the the Trans Canada ring road around the city.
The links are below:
On edit got a "too many links message", so the other links are on the post below (and I won't add any colourful language here!)
I can verify the SSM KOA, it's very nice & the management was great. We had our RW/truck weighed wheel by wheel by the owner & bought our tire pressure monitor system from him. Would highly recommend it if your staying in that area.
