I will be in Crescent City, Ca going to the Redwood NP for a few days and then I want to travel to Roseburg Oregon. I want to travel via 199 to catch up with I-5 at Grants Pass and on to Roseburg. How is 199 in that direction? Can I safely drive my 38 foot RW on that road? It is a federal HW so I am assuming I will be OK.
We have traveled that highway many times, as the Redwood is among our favorite destination (we stay in Redwood RV park just north of Crescent City). The highway is a little narrow and windy closer to Crescent City, but if you take the curves slow, you'll be OK. It connects up with I-5 in Grants Pass, OR
Never done 199, but I’m told it’s no problem.
If you want a less direct, very scenic route, take 101 to Reedsport. Then head east on 38, to 138 to 5.
The drive up the coast on 101 is gorgeous. Hwy 38 runs up the Umpqua river. We drive these routes annually for a stay in Winchester Bay.

Similar to Ken - we haven't used 199, but have used 38 a couple of times. Have completed 101 in both directions, with no problems.
