Has anyone traveled with your Redwood across Montana on US 2? I will be on my way across I-94 in North Dakota and am thinking on going up to US 2 to cross most of Montana to I-15 and up to Calgary and Banff. Is it a good smooth road? Any help is appreciated. This trip is for next summer and from Banff on to Vancouver and south to Seattle and Portland and back east.
Dave,
Can't help with US 2, as we stayed on I-90 all the way to Seattle and then up I-5.
If you want some feedback on heading East from Calgary and then south down the West Coast, feel free to send a PM or email me.
I will thanks,
I did somewhat of a similar trip last summer but stuck to the i-90. If you take the i-94 you'll connect with the i-90 in Billings, MO. The portion of the i-90 we drove wasn't bad nor the roads on the Canadian side.
Our route was:
- Omaha, NE
- Rapid City, SD
- Devils Tower, WY
- Thermopolis, WY
- Billings, MO
- Anaconda, MO
- Shelby, MO
- Cross into Canada @ Sweet Grass
- Calgory, AB
- Banff, AB
- Icefields Parkway (Free overnight)
- Jasper, AB
We did fit @ the campground in Banff but it was tight. Suggest you make a reservation as early as possible as they turned away 3 campers in front of us when we checked in. Fully booked but it was high season so not a surprise.

What did you mean "we did fit"? What was the campground in Banff called?
Thanks
My confirmation email says we stayed at the Trailer Court campground. When I look @ the Banff website campgrounds it shows Village Mt Trailer Court with sites up to 50', so I think it's the same.
Very nice campground. Saw a moose within 15 minutes of setting camp.

Great and thanks....When I get close to finalizing I'll get in touch to get your thoughts. Id like to get my reservations by the end of August for next summer.
I've never taken our Redwood on US 2 in Montana, but I grew up living in three different towns on this highway, and the route you're planning on isn't bad, but it's only a two lane road, and somewhat narrow in places, but on the positive side there isn't much traffic to contend with. I assume from your comments you plan on taking I 15 north from Shelby up to Calgary. The portion in Montana and North Dakota won't give you many problems.
When in Banff, look for Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court, which has W/S/E. not Tunnel Mountain Village, which has electric only.
Oriana,
As a resident Canadian, can you confirm electrical requirements?
Are you on 50 cycles or 60 cycles? The US is on 60 cycles.
Would one need special adapters to make everything work when connected to shore power?
US & Canadian power is exactly the same. Also no adapters are required.
We live in Kalispell MT. Hwy 2 is good, just 2 lanes is the only drawback but like was stated before, not much traffic and stays up north where you will want to be. Let me know if you want info on our area. We go to Banff through Eureka MT border crossing, spend the night at Fairmont Hot Springs - nice rv park, then head to the park KenA mentioned - we were there at the same time. I had made online reservations in advance so fitting wasn't an issue but we are short 3110. It was our shake down trip and we shouldn't gone so far from home! KenA saved our stay with all the tools he had on board for a long trip.
Fairmont Hot Springs - great park, we spent about a week there one summer
We traveled US 2 from Glacier NP to Williston, ND, then turned south toward Rapid City in 2015. We didn't have our Redwood at the time but we were towing our vintage Rainbow TT. Like all have said, two lane highway but good road, and some very interesting towns along the way. Lots of railroad activity and at the time Williston was a boom town from the natural gas. I think that has slowed down a lot. I'm glad we took the "hi-line" - reminded me of the old days and probably what Route 66 was like. I do recall at the time we had Sprint cell service and had no coverage through most of Montana. Had to buy a road atlas in Havre!
