Has anyone lost the complete wheel off 5th wheel? If so, I am wondering if it could bend the frame? If both axles should be replaced? If the blow could be so bad that it messed up front air conditioning? I lost wheel of front drivers side of rv and blow was so bad it pulled the tail lights out of rv on passenger side. I am extremely concerned at the damage that has not been addressed by insurance. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you Dana

I lost one! Our first trip out brand new. But the frame didn't hit. It probably twisted but I never had any further trouble.

I would be concerned about the bar trusses between the frame rails. Many people have experienced broken trusses on Redwood even with all 4 wheels attached. A twist that was tight enough to pop a tailight could sure break a truss. They would have to get in there and inspect.

Was it the wheel, lugs or bearings that gave way? Agreeing with Brad, I'd definitely have it inspected under the coroplast/underbelly before signing off on the insurance. Might also be worth a call or 2 to RW & Keystone, sounds like product failure to me.

Thank you so much for response. See another thing is insurance company had me drag it approx 8 miles with axle dragging on ground, turning corners, over railroad tracks and then had to back it into gravel drive at the shop. I am real concerned.

It lost the complete wheel and hub. Something stabbed tire in side wall and I have been told it got too hot and came off.

Well I am on work computer and cant get them right now. When it was delivered to shop the round part of axle (that holds wheel on) on the bottom half was ground off. Does that answer question? I guess you have figured out your speaking with a woman with little knowledge of mechanically issues.

Dana,

It could be one of several things that happened, crown bolt backed off, wheel bearings heated up and failed, wheel studs.. If my trailer drug the axle on the ground for that long, I would be having a major issue with whom ever told me to do that..

A few years back my buddy lost a wheel on our way to Indianapolis, we took ratchet straps and tightened up the dragging axle to get us off the turnpike..

I would be concerned if the flex was severe enough to pop out a rear light lens, those are almost glued in. Like stated before, check the support trusses in between the frame rails to make sure some of those did not fail also.

The bottom is solid and no way to tie axle up so that why they said drag it, took 3 days between insurance co, AAA and myself trying to find someone that could haul a unit that big and I finally found one out of OKC, Allied in OKC said they could have hauled from Kansas to Okla $1,400.00 but insurance said well lets get axle fixed there in KS and then get it on home for body work. Insurance said if I did not have it greased good they would not pay so thats another reason I hunted until I found the tire to inspect grease and there was plenty inner and outter. So I was told wheel bearings did get to hot and let tire fall off. Its been a mess but thank you so much for your response, it helps me alot.
