Anyone had issues with broken, cracked, or overly flexing frames? Asking because my coach just started flexing a good bit when hitching and when in tow..............wondering/curious if the frame is improperly engineered or if something is possibly broken. Anyone had similar issue or know if there are any frame recalls? Thanks
I am aware of one person who had a cross beam come unwielded but that was in the body of the coach. Turned out that one of the Redwood techs didn't like the squeaky noise in the floor so they had a look and discovered it. Lippert came out and fixed it 2 years ago at the rally.
As this is something that just started I would think you would want to get it checked out.
Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Just trying to get an idea if there is a known issue, if anyone else has noticed a good bit of flex, or heaven forbid any broken frames before I spend money to have it evaluated/inspected. Because I suppose it wont be cheap to have that under nose skin pulled back to check it all out properly.
I have seen a Lippert u tube on how to measure and check for flflex in the pinbox. Not sure if on the other redwood forum or ccrossroads forum. You can probably contact Lippert for the info
I don't have any experience with Redwood flexing (other than just having a crack repair done on the fiberglass just below and in front of the bedroom slide, a known issue here).
I do have experience with a front frame flex on our previous RV (Glendale Titanium). This was caused by the mounting of the frame at the "knee". They called it pin box deflection.
The standard test on that RV was to mark the pin box just at the point it goes into the fiberglass when unhitched, then hitch up (lift up all the legs) and re-mark with the RV hitched. If the distance between the marks was greater than an inch or so then there was a pin box deflection problem. Same might apply to the RW.
I tried to find specifics on how to do the measurements but was unsuccessful so I guess I need to bite the bullet and take it to the Redwood dealer to get it checked out. Was hoping to avoid that because your coach always ends up sitting there so long, and everyone's rates are so high.......... but peace of mind is worth something I guess. Thanks for all feedback!
My dealer suggested measuring from the bottom of the front cap to the bottom of the main part of the trailer with the trailer on the truck, and then on the landing gear and seeing what the difference is. Lippert can tell you if it within the acceptable range. I'm doing it as my bedroom slide will only open and close when the landing gear is up.
Funny you mention that because I just started having issues with the bedroom slide working properly, and actual had to resort to putting it in manually this last time. I never thought to try putting it in with the landing gear up to see if it happened to work properly or not, I have always just put slides in and out when the trailer was completely setup and leveled.
This should be cover d under your 5 year structural warranty if you bought the coach new. If you are coming to the Rally, the Service Center Techs can measure pin deflection very easily.
Until I purchased this unit, I didn't realize the negatives of buying used (Specifically related to how they typically handle the warranty, I assumed it was like an automobile.). Unfortunately for me it was 6 months old when I bought it used, and I thought it was a good deal because it was saving me from having to wait for the dealer obtain the floorplan I wanted (saved me a several month wait) and it saved me a few bucks so I thought it was a win/win.
I cant make the rally this year but have made an appointment with my local dealer for them to check it out. I am hopeful that if its a Redwood issue they will care for it properly.
Thanks for the info!
You might drop down the belly around the pin box and start looking at frame and welds.
I finally get to take it in tomorrow to get checked out properly. Nothing like sitting, waiting, and worrying for a couple weeks while you wait for your appointment day. While waiting I found a lot of posts on the owners page and on the internet in general about frame flex, and what is normal or acceptable and what's not. I am really hoping what I noticed is considered normal but am anxious to here what the dealer/expert says about it.
Side Note: Generally speaking Redwood Customer Service was not very helpful. The only answer I could get from them was,it probably wasn't under warranty and I should take it to my dealer. LCI/Lippert on the other hand was very helpful in helping me determine if I should be concerned enough to take it to the dealer to get checked or not. I usually error on the side of caution but was concerned about the wait time to get into the dealer.
Please provide us with updates Moos. Thanks.
Here is a form from Lippert for the upper deck flexing. Location for measurements etc.

I have had the flex test done at the service center a few years ago and was fine and had no cracks showing at that time. last year on the door side front slide it started showing and last week BAM!!!!! it cracked when we hit a nasty bridge. Most likely just the normal crack but maybe time to pull the panel and look at the welds. The larger one is when is with the weight on pin and the other is when on landing gear.
