We often hear about ROG members dissatisfaction with Redwood dealers and this is a story about a good experience.
Last month we were stuck in Calistoga California with the kitchen slide that would only retract halfway. We contacted a mobile RV technician who worked with the slide and was able to move it in enough that we could travel over the road. The technician said he could not fix the slide mechanism and that it had to go to a dealer. In attempting to close the slide the teeth broke off of both of the spur gears driving the rack system which moves the slide. Replacing the spur gears did not alleviate the problem.
I contacted Lippert for advice and was directed to a Lippert five star servicing dealer in Sacramento. On contacting the dealer they said that they could take a look at my problem at the end of February. Duh! Then contacted other closer RV dealers all of whom told me they would not service the unit because they did not sell it to us.
A friend had recently purchased a Redwood from Toscano RV in Los Banos, California and claimed they were very good as far as service. So I called Tuscano and they said they could take the Redwood but they were booked until the middle of January. At this point the slide was jammed in the side of the wall and cocked. The front edge was approximately extending out 4 inches while the rear edge was tight against the outer wall. We were afraid to open the slide as we weren’t sure we could close it and might be stuck again.
We are now back in the redwood having returned to Los Banos to fetch it this week. Toscano finished the repair two weeks ahead of what they promised and the slide has never worked better. The repair included removing the slide and replacing bent tubes in the mechanism. They also fabricated and welded a new bracket to the slide frame.
While the unit was there I also had them do some other repairs on items that I had been putting off such as repairing a broken gray tank cable and replacing some of the slides seals that had literally dissolved. All of the work was done to my complete satisfaction and the price was fair.
I nominate Toscano RV for a gold star award and would recommend anyone in the area use them for service or consider them for purchasing a new RV.

Terry - Great news on the repairs. Are you headed to Indio or Borrego Springs.
Andy,
See you in Indian Waters first week of Feb.
I'm departing Lynden on Feb 1st, as soon as the storage place opens. Depending on weather around Grants Pass & Shasta I hope to arrive Indio on Feb 3rd or 4th. Just me driving, as Judi flies down Feb 6th.
See you at Indian Waters.
What a fortunate discovery. It's good to hear that there are quality dealers out there. I still can't believe dealers are so saturated that they will turn down work because they didn't sell it. It really stinks of collusion to protect each other.
Terry, it's great to hear that you found a good dealer and are back on the road!
We are fortunate to have a great dealer as well, HitchnGo RV back home, great service and advice.
We look forward to seeing you in Borrego Springs!
We need to start a permanent part of this forum where we can call out good dealers for traveling members in need of service/repairs.
Would love feedback on where we in the NW can go. Sounds like you are headed to CA? We canceled our Huntington Beach CA trip next week. Roads are too iffy. Lots of snow this year. Will stay home and ski and head to CO and NM the end of April. If anyone knows of great rv parks on that route from Montana, would be much appreciated.
I'll second the cheers for Toscano! We have purchased 3 5th wheels from them - the Redwood being the most recent. Toscano ALWAYS takes care of any problem on time and usually before.
Our rig is currently there to repair to repair water damage due to a manufacturing defect - out of warranty of course. At least the extended warranty covered the defect part. Insurance, amazingly, is covering everything else.
