Joe - in the RL you have a bunch of options since its side by side. I used a washer and dryer that are Japanese and made for small apartments. Work like a champ, are very lightweight and also inexpensive. I have less than $900 total in both Dryer weighs 45 lbs and washer is 73 lbs.

Send me a note if you'd like more info. We use them almost daily and are quiet and do a great job.

Just a comment on the Splendide combo unit. If you are on the road and use it a lot, it's not a good choice. We went through attempted repairs (first one failed under warranty, second unit burned out the dryer coils twice and the dryer vent pipe clogged as well). Gave up and installed the Ariston (sp?) washer and dryer units, they work well. Don't tell anyone, but we have 2 dryer vent holes in our slide, the vents didn't match when we moved to the separate dryer!

I installed the combo in our last SOB, it washed (small loads) just fine but took forever to dry & an iron/ironing board will be mandatory, everything comes out very wrinkled. DW said on the RW if that's what she had to have to leave it out & she'd go to the laundromat or I could do the ironing.
Not trying beat Steve out of a sale, but the separates are much better.

I installed the vent in 2 5ers we owned. Scary yes 🙂 I used a 4" hole saw with pilot bit. I had to do the inside first, then go outside to finish because the wall was just thick enough the hole saw couldn't get all the way through. I saved the plugs and we use them as coasters for grins.

The bigger problem is alignment. You can be precise and have the hole directly in line the outlet on the dryer, but if you miss, you're in trouble. I chose to use two flat 90s and offset the hole so I had some flexibility in alignment, but I probably made more work for myself trying to install the dryer and assembling everything behind it.

Let's look at it like this... she can have this one as a learner unit.. if she likes it, and wants to upgrade that would be her choice .. you have to start somewhere

Quick and foolproof way to do the dryer vent hole is this ~

Pick up a piece of foam core poster board from Walmart or any stationery store. Position the poster board on the wall behind the dryer and tape in place. The dryer usually has a raised flange that the hose attaches to. Push the dryer back firmly against the poster board after you have the dryer positioned where it will be. The flange should leave a round indentation in the foam board. Mark center of the circle, drill through with the pilot bit till it makes a starter hole in the wall. Remove the board and drill the hole in wall with 4" hole saw, stopping when a helper outside tells you pilot bit has broken through. Then go outside, cover the area around the pilot hole at least 6"x6" with masking tape and then drill through the wall from the outside. The masking tape keeps the gelcoat from cracking or splintering and gives a nice smooth cut. Install a Spledide dryer vent kit, hook up the inside, and you're done.

Easy, peasy and no measurement stress !!

Here it is from a woman's perspective......
(Keep in mind we do not full-time; but we are on the road 4-6 months out of the year.)

I'd love to have a washer/dryer in the RW except for the fact that most reports I hear, say that you HAVE to do laundry every day. Every day??!! Count me out. I can take our laundry to a laundromat and get it done in 1.5 hours - ONCE A WEEK.

I have full timed with stackable Washer / Dryer for over 5 years.
I never washed every day, typically washed twice a week.
I do not want my smelly clothes hanging around in my home on wheels for a whole week 🙂

OK I'll add my nickle here. We had the Vented Combo in our 36RL, used it for 3 years doing a small load every other day. While in Florida for the Winter we generally air dryed outside, but on the road we used the Dryer function, put a load in and go about our business, come back later and laundry is done.
Now in our 39MB we have the stacked units, same process, small load every other day. Only difference we now have to move the clothes from the washer to the dryer.
When on the road we just do our laundry in the evening while watching the Boob Tube.
As for Laundry Mats, Ann have several shirts ruined our first year Snow Birding using Campground Laundrys from left over grease etc in the machine. We ordered our first Combo unit on our way home that year.
NOTE: Stay away from Non-Vented units at all cost!

We workamped as housekeepers at a very nice coop park in Arizona & keeping the washing machines & dryers cleaned was part of our duties, my point is what in the hell were some of those folks washing/drying, some days they were horrible. From my DWs perspective, she said she was VERY glad she had her own machines after taking care of public ones.

Yes that's a good reason to have your own W/D units. The laundromat in our village has signs posted "do not wash horse blankets", I wonder what other stuff gets washed?

We have the Splendide combo unit, vented. For the most part, I set it wash and dry, towels, linens etc. For clothes, I usually set the dryer to 20 minutes, then hang dry from there. I cut some PVC the width of the shower, put rubber end caps on the pipe and hang the laundry using the pipe and plastic hangers. Solves the wrinkle problem.

We didn't want to give up the extra shelves with a stack-able unit. Combo has worked really well for us.
