I am thinking of adding battery capacity. I know some have done this. I am curious if anyone has done so and placed the batteries in the storage area at the rear of the coach - the one above the rear hitch? Anyone have any thought on this idea?
Bob & Judy,
Unless you plan on spending a fortune for battery cables, that wouldn't be a practical location. I used 00 welding cables and tried to locate the batteries as close to the inverter as possible. Those cables are sold by the foot and are very expensive.
I bought a battery box that was just the right size to fit next to the generator prep area. Photo attached. 4-6 volt batteries fit in the box. Here is where I bought the box: https://www.fisheriessupply.com/dyno-battery-golf-cart-box-4-version.

Morning Ken,
Thanks for the info. I was thinking of the rear end simply as a weight distribution issue. But after making the comment I actually looked again at the rear storage and determined that it isn't large enough anyway.
So you added two more batteries. What batteries did you choose? How long are you self sustaining at this point?
Thanks again,
Bob
PS/ Going to the Rally?
When I bought the Redwood, I had 4 relatively new, 6v golf cart batteries. I had the dealer remove the oems and install mine. They are Costco. I think they are 210 amp hours....you can get 230's for not much more from other sources.
When we boondock, which is not all that often, I have plenty of power to run my heated cpap machine, the residential refer and my entertainment slide circuit all night with enough battery left to make a pot of coffee. I recharge in the am for an hour or so and again in the evening.
No rally this year. We are in Northern California, so I figure about 5 days drive each way.
