Will someone tell me how to get the screen off covering the motor for our ceiling fan in the bathroom. The motor is making too much noise and will have to be lubed or replaced.
We just replaced ours at is would only work intermittently and was making a lot of noise. From inside, unscrew the crank handle, then remove plastic frame, then screen can be removed. The new motor just clips in. If you need just motor you can buy from Amazon but it took over a month literally from China. You can buy fan motor and blades for about $10 more. There are probably several YouTubes to assist.
Be sure to order the correct motor for your vent fan. There are a couple of them out there. You need the round "spined" shaft. If you give the correct part number , you should get the correct motor. The other motor has a keyed shaft. Either could actually work but you will need the other fan if you get the wrong unit.
In the 2014 GK, ours is a Ventline 2094.
Round Spline Shaft (ignore the brand. Demonstration only):
Keyed Shaft:
Here is the V2094 Motor:
Step 01: CAREFULLY unsnap the bug screen. They are extremely brittle after being in the sun. You'll probably break the tabs. You'll have to decide whether to replace the entire screen.
Step 02: Pull the fan blade downward to remove from shaft. Wiggle back and forth. Verify if you have the round splined shaft or the keyed shaft. This will differ between vent fan companies. On the 2014 GK, we have a Ventline 2094.
Step 03: Unscrew the Garnish ring. Wiring for the motor is behind it. It is 12V. Make sure the fan switch on the wall is in the off position:
Step 04: Remove the 12V wire nuts.
Step 05: Remove the two VERY small screws from the motor and save for re-install.
To re-install, just reverse the steps.
Sometimes it can be better to order the entire unit. It can be cheaper than individual parts. On all of the plastic parts, they tend to yellow. If you replace a plastic part, it will not look the same as the rest of the unit. If that does not bother you, no problem.
Here are some the common parts for the Ventline 2094:

These are the plastic tabs that you will need to bend to get the screen off. More than likely, they will break. At least a certain portion of them. Make it a contest and see how many you can avoid breaking...
