Black tank

Just purchased a 2014 Redwood 38GK. Black tank is full. Went to dump, pulled handle and nothing happened. It felt like there was enough tension on the handle to be opening the valve but cannot be sure. I do not know where the valve body is located.
Any one having any information I would surely appreciate it.

To locate the tanks you will need to drop the underbelly cover.

Don't believe we have any GK drawings in the Technical Library, but tank locations are probably similar to other floorplans except the FL's, which have Grey/Black tanks at back of axles.

Your black tank should be up front, probably just aft of the FW tank.

If you have proper tension, I would also check for an additional gate valve, which many of us have installed to help equalise the grey tanks.

How do you know that the black tank is full? Don't believe the indicators that are used to tell you the tank levels. Very few of them are accurate or even work. Suggest that you dump about 5 gallons of water down the toilet and then open the black tank valve to determine if the valve is working . If nothing comes out of the drain then you either have a nonfunctioning valve or the black tank drain is clogged.

Kind of a given, but if someone snapped on the additional valve at the end of the drain pipe, that could also be another location.

Also, since there is no such thing as quality control or regulation (although it does appear the new management for Redwood does seem to be taking a big interest in this), you may want to open all of the valves if you have not tried that. Who knows...One of the handles may be mis-marked.

As for the tank level sensor on the black tank, I am having a bit of good luck with this...As the tank has filled, I empty as usual. THEN, I connect the hose to the flush valve and run for about 15 minutes. So far, so good. The sensor for this tank is working correctly. I can't say so much for the grey tanks....

Terry asks a valid question.

I've had situations where I had a clog of solids, the liquid drains but leaves the solids intact in the tank. If the tank is back-flushed using a gadget that you can get at Camping World you can determine quickly if the valve is open or closed (no flow back into the tank, the valve is closed). Start there before doing the dirty work!

If the tank is truly filled, you may have to drop the bottom cover and go from there. I suspect that if you have resistance when you pull on the valve lever then the gate valve is working.

Be sure your tank is pretty full prior to releasing your bios...

On a recent experience, I had to fill and flush several times in order to get things worked out. I asked the DW to feed us with a little less fiber... I also opened and closed the valves several times in a row. I'm not so sure that helped for sure but it may have helped to break up the solids stuck in the tube (no pun intended)... :woohoo:

We have a 2014 GK and the valve is located to the left of discharge and only need to drop the belly cover at the discharge. I had to replace the valve due to leaking.

easy to reach as the pull cable may be too long and pulled out of valve holder but still in the shield.
