I want to completely fill the gray water tank for the shower and washer/dryer, besides the indicator lights. What will show up when it’s full, shower base not draining or? We have a 38RL
Thanks

We have an FL and have both tanks linked. The shower provides the first indication the grey tanks are full.

Wouldn't count on the sensor indicators to tell you anything except the little lights work, don't count on them being anywhere near accurate as far as tank levels.
Mine is like Andy's, the shower drain will back up into the shower.
Do you have specific reason for filling that grey tank? Are you looking for leaks or have some other problem?

RL, RE, GK, MB...The shower will fill first.

Remember that water (clean) is 8 lbs per gallon.

Remember that your tanks are cheap plastic. The bottom will sag with all that weight sitting there. Eventually, you could (not necessarily will) invite the tank to crack and spill the contents on the ground.

If you travel with your tanks full, that puts a lot of extra stress on the tanks.

Fresh Water 104 Gallon x 8 ppg = 832 lbs.
Black Water 45 Gallons x 9 ppg (Some more. Some less :)) = 405-450 lbs.
Gray Water 90 Gallons x 8.2 ppg = 738 lbs.

If you fill all tanks (for whatever reason you chose to do this), this will add approximately 2020 lbs.

Are you traveling? Make sure you have calculated your GCVW rating correctly. Check the pin weight on your truck. If your RV is full of "stuff" and you add this much weight, be careful.

And like Danny pointed out, you can't count on the sensors (ever).

Gray water will fill the shower. The shower is the low point.

Black water will start making a funny sound when you flush as the tank fills up.

Save money ($0.20)...When you order your RV, don't get the sensors. Get the electric flush valves instead 🙂

When the fresh water tank is full, water will shoot out the fill tube. It will also pour out the overflow tube and Siphon out half your water. I put a shut off valve on the overflow tube to prevent that from happening. Otherwise, don't fill your tank full.

After the rally I’m just trying to clean the sensors. We do not travel with anything in the tanks. I do wish I had electrically operated valves.

Quick and easy...Dishwasher detergent. Pour into the sink. Add water, drive to the next destination and dump.

Like many of us, you'll just forget those sensors after a while.

They would be nice if you are camping and not using the RV for Residential use (we leave them open all the time). It would be nice if you can see how full they are getting in case you have to find a dump station shortly.

The electric valves are available in many places. The average is $175 for the 3" Black valve and $135 for the 2" Grey tanks (each). You can install them in about 3-4 hours total.

Gip, Hopefully you're NOT leaving the black valve open?
For others listening, NEVER EVER leave the black valve open when connected to the sewer connection, leave it closed til about full then dump/flush til water runs clear then use what's in the grey tanks to rinse hose. You can leave the grey valves open, just close a day or two before dumping black so you'll have the hose rinse.

Danny,

In his previous post, he mentioned issues with the sensors in his grey tank. No mention about black. Therefore, the suggestion about leaving his tank open was in reference to grey.

No...I never leave the black open but like you, when it looks like the moment will arrive (no pun intended), I do the same as you and close the grey tanks a day or 2 in advance. Your plumbing system will appreciate the flush and so will the park owner...It will help keep the park lines cleaner...

I have not tried this product, but have tried just about every method ever mentioned from bags of ice (waste of ice), every brand of sensor cleaners (except this one), Geo method (still use it), magic potions, secret formula elixirs & tried different toilet papers (use what you like, or DW likes, as long as it says "septic safe") all did NOTHING for sensors. Best results cleaning is the Geo method &/or Dawn dish soap & thorugh rinsing, did not help the sensors. I don't even look at the sensors anymore, they don't tell me anything.

I completely agree! In all my RV's you could never rely on the sensors. I will report back on Tank Blaster though as soon as I get it. It was out of stock at Amazon and not expecting to ship until the end of August.
