We couldn't figure out why 1 grey tank was filling so fast. When Dave was taking a shower, I saw water bubbling up in the kitchen sink! 1 grey tank registered full, the other almost empty. Now that we are home, took the walls off inside the basement and sure enough, one whole grey tank is for the bathroom sink and the other tank is for the shower and kitchen! Someone screwed up in the factory. Now trying to re-plumb it so the drains go to the right tank. What a mess in the enclosed area! Turns out there was no bag in the vacuum so got out the shop back to clean that up. Looks like the factory just jammed everything in the basement area, no rhyme or reason. Discovered co-axel cables not connected to anything, might explain the problem with the bedroom tv. Happy my husband can fix most anything! Anyone else have the same grey tank issue?
No, but we have our own "quality" issues to deal with.
No regulations...No past quality control...
Redwood has posted a new blog indicating a better effort going forward is or will be taking place.
The jury is still out.
You just missed the rally or they might have taken care of that for you. They are really pretty good about taking care of issues there.
One grey tank looks after the sink an shower the other looks after the bathroom sink and washer and dryer. Some have installed an extra valve to the sewer outlet and then opened both grey water valves so the have 90 gallons of holding while boondocks if on city hookups leave them both open
Suggest you look in the Technical Library under Common Problems (Expanding Gray Tank Capacity/Solving Weeping Sewer Valves) for the solution.
Well, if you have a 36FL (ours is a 2012 36FL model) and do not have a washer/dryer, one grey tank supports the kitchen and bathroom and the other supports the washer/dryer. So in essence, you only have 45 gal of grey tank capacity. One fix is to install a valve on the grey/black discharge pipe, keep it closed and open both grey tank valves to "cross level" the grey tanks. A better solution would be to have the shower and washer dryer hooked to one grey tank and the kitchen to another grey tank, especially if you have a dishwasher (as we have). I discussed this "fix" with Redwood about 9 months after our purchase as was politely told that was the way it was engineered. My response was Whoopee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!or words to that effect. Some time this year I will re-plumb the pipes and fix it right.
We have a 31sl, while it has connections for washer/dryer, not practical to do so in such a small 5th wheel.
thank you, we have a 31sl. That is definitely short sighted, assuming all will have a washer and dryer!
We have almost the opposite in the 39MB, Shower, washer, and both Bathroom vanties go into the Gray tank, and since we don't have the Dishwasher, just the Kitchen Sink into the Galley. And as I've posted before, the extra valve trick doesn't work with the MB because the Gray Tank is in the front drop frame section, while the Galley is midships above the axles, so you would just fill the Gray that much faster.
Yes, we all do have our issues. After owning our Redwood for 4 months, and 1 month in the dealers shop, we were hoping that everything was resolved. Just easier to fix things ourselves since we can. Good to see what the equipment area looks like anyway to fix other things.
We have the same floor plan as John and don't have a W/D, so we had everything going into 1 tank and the other was empty.
Installed the additional valve at the outlet to balance the tanks. Works well and also provides redundancy in the event one of the tank valves fails or leaks.
Dave and Cary - the easiest is to add the Valterra gate valve at the end of the sewer dump. When you are setup, simply open both grey valves and open the dump valve in line ahead of the new gate valve you added. You now have the capacity of both greys as they will self level. We do have a washer but did this trick right from the start to get full capacity.
I thought briefly about redoing the plumbing but quite frankly this works so well I didn't see any reason to.
