While trying to find the source of the bad smell when dumping tanks, we discovered the belly was sagging and a small leak. After pulling the belly panel off, our galley tank has NO strapping holding it in or preventing the Hugh sag that we have in the tank. Has anyone loooked at theirs? Do you have anything besides the shoulders of the tank holding it in there? I can move the tank up and down when it's MT.
Don
I had the same issue with my black. One side actually popped out of the support and came down. I installed cross supports on all 3 tanks to keep them in place

Shane,
Do you happen to have pictures of what you did?
Thanks Shane..... Found the tank has a hole at the shoulder. I'll put some cross members in when I replace the tank.
I did not get pics.
I ran 1 1/2" x 3/8" steel strapping and bolted it to the cross members on both ends of the tanks. The tanks just sit on the lip of the cross members and if they spread at all the tank falls. this helps keep them tied together
Well this subject is dear to my heart account I had a big problem with my 3400RL before we purchased the new to us RW 38GK14. There is one company in Elkhart that manufactures all the holding tanks gray/black for the RV industry. After a big blow out on my black water tank because the idiots left the drilled out plug inside the tank for the toilet plumbing entry point.
I just happened to talk to the owner of this company and he told me that every RV manufacturer does NOT install these tank straps per his companies instructions. Every tank is supposed to have 2 supporting straps along with the hanging lip on the top set on the angle iron. So I am very disappointed to hear that these residential rigs didn't get that one little thing taken care properly at installation.
The only thing that will prevent failure is to travel with your tanks empty and do not let them over fill or fill to full capacity because the flexing over time causes the failures. This is what I was told by the owner of this company. I tried to contact him again at a later date to no avail was this possible and I believe that he probably thought he made a mistake in letting the information out for self preservation. Once again just another 5 dollar item that was cut out to increase profits. Another reason the RV industry needs better consumer protection from these types of hidden known defects....... I will be very interested in seeing a detailed post on the repair Shane.
After 3 Black water baths and a lot of cussing Keystone I would much rather get this situation corrected before it becomes a problem. And with the Black water tank above the Grey water tank I can only imagine how much work that would be to fix if it fails. See all these postings are many of the hidden problems that could have been done correct right out of the factory yet the consumer is stuck with big repair bills even if the work is done by the owner. Still love our RW, brought it home from storage this morning so I can mount the solar panels tomorrow morning. Looking forward to heading North for the rest of the Summer in a few weeks .
I bought some steel angles from Home Depot which were the correct length to span across and beneath the main side frames. I installed several to contain the sagging belly pan and to reinforce beneath the tanks. I attached the angles with self tapping bolts thru the I-beam flanges that comprise the external frame. So far so good. Hope the image of the angles appears.
