From all faucets, the hot water is only luke warm. Does not change if the water heater is heating with propane or electric. I have found that if I turn the bathroom faucet on hot and let it run, cold water comes out, but the shower hot water is hot. As soon as I turn off the bathroom faucet, the shower goes back to luke warm. This problem just started this week.
I have verified the outside shower valves are shut off. I also removed the shutoff button from the inside shower.
I have searched the forum and online, but haven't found anyone having this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Terry
This almost sounds like your winter bypass valve is partially open and water is bypassing it.The wintering lever may appear to be in the correct position but it is not. I would suggest you check to make sure that it is not in a partial bypass.
Thanks for your response. I have checked the valve, but I will check it again tomorrow. I am wondering if the valve has failed. I ordered a new valve from Amazon today. I will post what I find out.
Hope the water heater bypass valve replacement does the trick. Might be a check valve also. Ours has 2 brass ones in all the plumbing lines near the water pump and the water heater. Do you have a pex crimper? Just checking. Not everything is connected by threaded fittings.
I replaced the bypass valve. It did not fix the problem. I did not have a pex crimper, but I do now. I also bought a pex clamp remover to get the original clamps off. I have not found the check valves yet. I guess I'm not sure what they look like. I will keep looking.
Thanks
And screw into the inlet and/or outlet of the water heater. No affiliation with Amazon.
Thanks. I do see it now that I know what I'm looking at. I will get one and replace it.
Check to see if the valves on you your outside shower are turned off
Problem fixed.
The check valve on the cold water line coming from the bypass valve failed.
Thanks to everyone for helping me to learn that there was a check valve and what it looked like.
