I've read of some discussion about the weight of these units even though I understand this is the unit recommended for this model. If I should beef up the deck what would anyone suggest. Also any schematics of the hook up? We are prewired for the starter. I looked in the archives but no luck. I'm sure as been asked before. thank you Dave and Cary

I am not so sure you would need to "beef up the deck".. From what I see, the steel plate that is there is sturdy enough to carry the 250+ weight. I have the 6.5 installed in mine and did not mods to the floor.

I installed the 5.5 in our Redwood myself. Assuming you have the gen prep. I too did not like the deck they provided, as the gen weighs 284 lbs. However the factory installs put the generator right on that deck, so that is all I did.

Remote start just plugged right in. Battery start cables need routed through the shield to the batteries. At this part my memory is lapsing because I installed the gen in two other 5ers, but the output circuits go to a 4x4 box next to the gen shield with pop out breakers, or they go directly to the transfer switch. I apologize but I don't remember if Redwood had the small breaker box or not. I think it did not.

For the LP, I had a hose made at a propane supplier and tapped under the regulator (non-regulated). The hardest part is the exhaust. No exhaust shop I found would bend the 1" pipe, so you either had to upsize to 1-1/4" or install the kit from Redwood.

thanks for the info. I had planned to also have a hose made. My rig is buried in the snow now but I'll have to look and see if I have a transfer box. Thanks again

If you have the gen prep there will be a transfer switch in the battery compartment on the back wall.

I haven't done a generator yet, not sure if I will, but if I do I'm going to make a mount for a garden tractor size battery above the genset that is dedicated to it only. That way if the house batteries happen to get really run down you still have the ability to start the gen.

I had my dealer install the 5500 Onan Gold in my coach and it syncs with the new InCommand System. The InCommand system will prime and auto start the generator if the house battery voltage drops below 11.5V. Very slick!
