My coach has an Onan 5500 LP genset and I'd like increased propane capacity. Has anyone replaced their factory 30 lb. bottles with the taller 40 lb. bottles? It looks like the cabinet is tall enough and the 40 lb. bottles have the same diameter. I'm wondering if the pigtails are long enough?

thanks!

Yes, 40lb tanks fit OK. We changed to 40's before taking delivery

I also changed over to the 40#’s . .

The only thing I had to do was to move the mount for the propane hose inside that cabinet

If you stay mobile, 40 lb are the way to go. We keep 3 tanks. When 2 get empty, we take them to get filled. With the 3rd tank, it keeps things going for a few extra days until we get around to filling the other 2.

If you are stationary, you might consider the 100 lb tank(s).

These are from Amazon, but I have found the prices comparable to local distributors.

Now...As for pricing, our current propane price is running $2.09 a gallon (11/10/17 - Texas - DFW Area). Our dealer expects the price to drop as the temps fall... You would think just the opposite...

When/If you make the change you might want to move the tank strap up a couple of inches. It comes from the Factory set to be in the middle of 30 Lb tanks, so with the 40 LB tanks being taller the become a little top heavy for the lower position of the strap.

This is awesome info GipC! Thank you so much. I would have never thought to check on Amazon. I am staying put for the winter and the amazing RV Park I'm staying at has installed a large horizontal 250 gallon plus tank so I am good for winter.
