I don't see anything here about solar panels...
Any pro's or con's?
The things look expensive. Are they worth it?
Just for fun, I can see us trying the "off grid" thing a couple of times. Maybe in Quartzite, Arizona or up in Yellowstone Park just to say "we did that" for example.
And based upon some of your posts about generators, we may opt out of purchasing a generator and try 4 or 6 batteries instead. Weight is weight. Each battery is about 100 lbs. (6 V). But the generator is at least 250 to 300 lbs by itself.
I would need to look at increasing the inverter size to cover the microwave and TV load. I doubt that even 6 batteries would work too long if the A/C is turned on?
Fortunately, we have the propane stove, propane refrigerator, heat is propane, and the water heater is propane. If we park for extended periods, we may consider adding the 250 lb external propane tank.
Your thoughts?

We have 2- 160W panels and a 2800W inverter, and 4 batteries. We did a lot of provincial parks (no hookups)this past summer. Only needed the generator once, and that was our fault. We're thinking of adding another panel this winter. Our power needs are not that demanding. Two coffee pots and the microwave to thaw frozen meat. There is another rV'r here that has 5 panels, 8 batteries and has done all the math. He rarely plugs in at the parks where you pay for power.
If you don't mind, what does a setup like that cost?
