Hi

I am trying to avoid taking her back to the dealership as I just purchased it last week. For the first time around my washer and realized that my drain somehow is leaking into my cargo hold and down my frame. Has anybody had any success on locating how to get to the drain? Is it through the cargo hold by removing one of the walls? Your help is greatly appreciated. I think it’s a simple fix so I think I can do it but I just need to figure out how to get to it. I have a redwood 38 foot RL. The washer and dryer is in the bedroom slide out. The funny thing is underneath the slide out outside there’s no water damage it’s just in the cargo hold and running down through the frame. Help!

Are you sure the leak is not under the bed? Do you have the slide in slide?

This is one of those problems that has been with RW since Day One.
Your washer's drain goes over under the bed where there is a section of flexible hose (like a swimming pool filter hose) that moves as the slide goes in and out. RW has never gotten it right connecting that flexible hose to the ridge drain pipe. It may be totally disconnected or just loose and leaking. Any way, you'll have to get in there and figure a way to make a tight connection. When I repaired our former '12 36RL I use a series of cable ties in an X pattern and it held for three years with every other day use until we traded.

Terry, I'm betting the problem is under the bed as well. I've been under there, not because of a leak but because the slide wouldn't go fully out, the side of the bed was hung up on a piece of bracing (that held the pipe people are talking about above).

Getting into the area is easy, move the mattress off, if you have that European "box spring" it comes off with 4 screws and then the plywood cover comes off easily, it's screwed on (Robertson screws). Take the advice given above to fix the problem.

It drained through paneling to the ground. I haven’t checked under the bed as the slide out bottom was dry. Does the drain hose run under the bed?

Terry,

Although I don't have a washer, I found the flexible drain line issue in my 2012 36RL when I was doing some work in upgrading the bed frame and support. On my unit the flexible tubing was not connected properly to the solid drain tubing. Redwood used a compression fitting similar to what is used on sink drains. It was not even finger tight and would have leaked (flooded the area under the bed) if I ever had used it.

It is just another issue of poor training and no quality control follow up.

Hope this helps.

Guy

As I mentioned in my earlier post, this problem has been around. Ours failed back in May of 2012. At that time I took pictures and described what I did to fix the problem and sent all that info into Redwood Service. Guess I really wasted by time and energy trying to get a problem fixed before others suffered the same issue.
Maybe it high time RW thought about putting someone back in the position of monitoring these posts and then do some action to fix them!!

Terry, you probably won't get water coming out of the slide as the connection being talked about is near the center of the RV under the bed, not on the slide.

The only time you may get water coming out of the slide is when you run the washer and overfill the gray water tank. Don't ask me how I know this! 🙁

At least on my unit, I was able to see the drain under the bed by taking out the under bed drawer on the left side of the bed and looking through an opening that was there. The parts for the drain connection were right there, but not hooked up. Maybe you can do the same thing.
