First stop on the first day of a 1,500 mile pull and the water pump is dead AGAIN.

Last used about 3 weeks ago no worries but today it pumps no more.

What gives, if I have to replace it, it will be my 4th water pump in less than 3 years.

We replaced 2 water pumps and then someone told us to take out the clear plastic piece between the tank and the pump. We set up a by-pass of this piece and then it worked. (The piece looked like a settlement trap.) We even put the previous pump in and after removing this piece it worked also. We just kept one for back up.

I don't have pictures--sorry.

Ken, if it totally silent, it's the electric side. If it sounds like it is pumping, it's probably a leak on the suction side. a leak on the suction side. Try tightening the cover on the pump filter.filter

First comment noticed...Pump is "dead".

Run thru the more obvious first:

1) Check for 12 V DC. Make sure you have not blown a fuse, have a broken wire, or burned terminals.

2) Check for binding on the pump. Is there a valve not fully open? Is there a kinked line?

3) Are you using the correct pump for the job? Is it undersized? Which pump are you using? Are you using a "value" pump?

4) A long shot but are you getting more or less than 12V? You could be burning it up in either case.

5) What size wire do you have running to the pump?

Short of these ideas, it will be interesting to see what you find...

It's totally silent. I've experienced the air lock issue when running the tanks dry but this isn't it.

I've done the easy checks (i.e. Fuse etc) and can't dig deeper now as I'm on a multiple day pull. Scrapped the dry overnight at Cattleman's Steakhouse near El Paso and will dig deeper when we get to Southern California.

I don't abuse the water pump. It's not like I'm trying to fill my blowup hot tub with the water pump. I don't even have it with.

Is it possible to get a 12v system power surge? I've never heard of anything like that.

Always something....

Ken

We've been driving between Phoenix and Houston for a couple of years now and swearing we were going to stop in El Paso to visit Cattlemen's. Have you yet, or is it going to be your first. If you have, is it great?

Been there 3 or 4 time maybe more and am sad I'll miss this pass. If you are ok boon docking for the night just tell them you need to stay at the bottom of the hill near the lake. Call when you get off the I-10. Security will meet you.

We always move one of the "No Parking" signs away and park near the lake at the bottom.

If you are a beef fan I highly recommend the 1/2 a Cow beef ribs. Brings tears to my eyes that a simple water pump separates me and the rack of ribs ......

Ken,

I don't believe you can get a 12volt power surge. Before you go through too much effort, use your multimeter to see if you are getting power to the pump. These pumps are rugged. I've had similar pumps exposed to salt air in a boat last for 2 years.

Where are you now? We are in Benson, AZ waiting to head west on Monday.

We are heading to El Paso. Will be arriving in Benson on Sunday. Cochise Terrace RV, then heading further west on Tuesday.

Where in Benson are you?

Brad

Think it's in a little spot about 10-15 miles or so east of El Paso called Fabens. Not much out there.

I assume since we haven't heard back from you, you still haven't figured out what happened to your water pump?

I'm still in route to Southern California living with out a water pump. Have worked it out that we have water connection while we are stationery.

We are volunteering @ the Indian Wells Tennis Tournament. Hoping to get it figured out when I have time while in California but time could be limited. For now we have 2x gallon jugs of water in the shower while driving so while underway can flush the toilet :(. Can also fill up the sink with the jugs to be able to wash hands.

Inconvenient but it works.....

Perhaps I should post in the Suggestions section that Redwood add a hand water pump - HA!
