I purchased a water softener this last spring and wasn't sure how I was going to protect it from the freezing weather as winter nears. Normally this unit just sits outside and is attached to the park hydrant and then feeds the coach. Having extra space in the heated basement I figured I could just move it to this location. I added three cable/hose ports - one in the floor of the basement where I wanted the softener and two lined with each other in the basement and utility cabinet wall. I don't have to worry about the water softener being outside in the elements and freezing now. I do have a concern about the vinyl water hoses potentially bursting/leaking so I may just pick up some PEX to replace the softener water lines.
Do you strap it for travel or just disconnect it? I would probably opt for straping.
It's not shown in the photo but I put the softener inside a small plastic milk crate that I purchased at Walmart. Works great as it's almost impossible to topple over and I can slide to the edge of the bay door when I have to service the softener.
Looks good , I had the same concerns for winter so I put mine behind the wall and plumbed in with pex

Jeremy just so I understand your softener is in the basement utility bay where the furnace is? I like the idea of it being there and out of the way but do you have to pull the panel each time you need to add salt to regenerate? I also have to tilt my softener and drain out some water in order to get 2 boxes of salt in it. Do you have to remove your softener to drain it? If you have pics of your installation I’d sure appreciate it.
Yes where the heater is , I put some buckle latch’s that allow easy access , I don’t have to pull to regenerate , I have line that runs out to flow water to regen for 30 min trickle time , I built in a bypass as well to still have water while I regen , I have lines I can blow the water out to add the salt , I strapped the softner down , I don’t have any photos but I’ll try to get some soon and post
Nice! Did you move your water filter to that side of the wall or did Redwood install it there? They used to be behind that door with an access door - hard to get to.
No I mounted the water filters kinda in same location as factory. They are mounted basically to the back side of softener. Since I drip some water when those are changed didn't want those behind the wall
The water filter in the photos in my original post is the factory location.

Very nice - I'm glad they moved it. It was very hard to get to in the old location behind the hatch.
Sorry for late reply for photos of my water softner install behind the wall . Here is a photo. I had these parts left over from odd jobs and finally got enough to plumb in. I don’t have to remove the tank to recharge. Just have to turn a few valves and fill with salt then flush. I also mad where I can back flush when needed as well. I ran a line out to where line comes out in water bay to winterize the coach. So I pull out and hook a water hose when I run water for 30 minutes.
