TOPIC: Hello from Colorado

Hello from Colorado 2 months 1 week ago #1

Hello everyone. My name is Paul and I just contracted to purchase a new 2018 Redwood 3921GK and am very excited to take delivery next week. I'm also looking forward to the wealth of information here on the Redwood Owners forums. Any suggestions to a new Redwood Owner would be greatly appreciated. Happy travels!

Do a THOROUGH PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection). Talk them into letting you stay on the lot for a night or two while you test out the unit. Once you leave the lot, you get in line with everyone else for future repairs (warranty or not).

Here are several PDI Checklists I have put together from various websites. Take it with you and plan on spending a lot of time with the RV and Service Tech:

Next, you're gonna need a few things....

Assuming you have your tow vehicle and hitch setup, do you need any of the following:

1/2" Dedicated Domestic Water Hose - 25' (X 2 so you can reach a faucet at the rear of the rig) - WHITE or BLUE

1/2" Dedicated Black Tank Wash Hose - 10'

If you will be in cold temps, you may want the heated water hose: www.amazon.com/Camco-22911-Heated-Drinki...ds=heated+water+hose

Sewer Hoses (we use the Rhino Hoses) ( www.amazon.com/Camco-39770-RhinoFLEX-Swi...rds=sewer+hose+rhino )

In addition, get the clear tube so you can monitor the discharge: www.amazon.com/Camco-39080-Rhino-Blaster...rds=sewer+hose+rhino

And get the3" twist on adapter: www.amazon.com/Valterra-T58-Twist-On-Was...rds=3%22+sewer+valve

A water pressure gauge (you will only want 40 psi max on the pex pipe. Above that, you take a risk): www.amazon.com/gp/slredirect/picassoRedi...33&widgetName=sp_atf

To avoid greasing the hitch, you might consider Disc Plates: www.amazon.com/Reese-Towpower-83002-Fift...s=pin+box+lube+plate

50A to 15A Adapters if you are going to store your rig: www.amazon.com/Conntek-14422-Pigtail-Ada...ds=50A+to+15A+4+wire

50A to 30A Adapter for parks that only have 30A connections: www.amazon.com/Adapter-Pigtail-Electrica...ds=50A+to+30A+4+wire

Black Tank Tablets: www.amazon.com/Walex-Tropical-Deodorizer...o+portapak+chemicals

Slide Seal Conditioner (some just use baby powder or Lemon Pledge): www.amazon.com/Thetford-Premium-Slide-Co...ide+lubricant+for+rv

Slide Out Lube: www.amazon.com/3-ONE-RVcare-Slide-Silico...ide+lubricant+for+rv

You'll need a torque wrench, 6" extension and sockets to check your wheel lug nuts

Get an assortment of duct tape, gorilla tape (black and clear), wire ties, fuses, butt splices, electrical tape.

Get a good set of tire gauges.

You'll want a Rand McNally Motor Carrier Map. It has all the low bridges in it: www.amazon.com/McNally-Deluxe-Motor-Carr...+mcnally+trucker+map

At some point, you'll want to get a spare Anode rod for your Water Heater.

Maybe a spare set of Timken Bearings for your axles.

As other things come to mind, everyone here will pass them along...

Double check the State you live in...

You may need to upgrade your driver's license to a Class A license. Here in Texas it is required. Double check with your insurance carrier and solicit their opinion. They may not cover you if you don't have the right license.

Check with your State for a Safety Inspection. Texas requires one ($7?) or ($12?)

Obtain Insurance on the RV. Are you full time or a weekender? There is a difference.

Check to see if all of your baggage keys are keyed alike.

Check to see if the propane tanks are filled. That will save you $60 or so. See if you get 30 lb or 40 lb bottles. You want the 40 lb tanks. Check the date codes on the bottles. They now have to be inspected every 10 years. Might as well and get as new as possible.

BTW... Did you get the 8000 lb axles, Disc Brakes and H rated tires? If not, start making plans to get in touch with Titan Guy. He is on this site and will really fix you up!

Start thinking about the Armor Roof if you save yourself roof headaches...

Did you get a generator for dry docking or boondocking opportunities?

Check your batteries. Get (2) of the Golf Cart batteries for extended life while not on shorepower.

If this is your first RV, you might want to consider the RV Boot Camp by the Escapees Club:

www.escapees.com/knowledge/boot-camp

Once you get the rig, have it Smart Weighed so that you know how the weight is affecting your RV:

Be sure to read the blogs on A/Cs....You'll need to have them cut the ducting collars down and clean out the over-spray foam in the return supply ducts. Then, they will need to reinstall the foam divider in both roof AC units.

BTW....Congratulations on your new rig! We have had ours 4 years now.

Welcome! We started our full time journey in our Redwood from Colorado Springs.

This is a great site for information. No question is too small. After RVing for over 25 years, we still learn from other RVers.

My most important advice to you... be happy with your new RV. Enjoy and have fun. Don't miss the joy of the journey. Things will happen, things will break, some parts may be frustrating... it is still a good time and a beautiful RV. Good choice.

Hi GipCTravelers! I'm so sorry for the late reply. I haven't had much chance to spend on these forums since I purchased my Redwood. I did get the 8,000 lb. axles and the 17.4 H-rated tires. The coach came with drum brakes though. I did purchase an Onan generator with the coach but would like to add solar at some point. I know they included two batteries but I'm not sure if they are 12 volt or 6 volt.
