Any full-timers (or part-timers traveling) out there that have tried the Consumer Cellular or Jitterbug cell phones?

Both are cheap. I take it you get what you pay for but it's definitely worth asking around...

Consumer Cellular is running from $15 to $25.

Jitterbug is running from $14.99.

Right now, we continue to use AT&T (willing to drop anytime due to price gouging) and we use Verizon's Mi-Fi (also another price gouger).

Coverage maps on both show the same as the big dogs. But the only way to really know is to ask some experienced users....

Love to hear from you...

GipC, on anther post you indicated that you were planning a trip through Canada to Alaska. I note that AT&T provides service through Canadian providers at no additional cost with some time US vs Canadian usage restrictions (read the fine print!). Not sure if the others do or not. It would be much cheaper than our Canadian internet BANDITS! Something to think about.

Thanks for that info. After the Alaska trip, our next adventure would have us spending the next summer throughout Canada. Although....I'm having some questions about the roads in the northern territories...

We have been Consumer Cellular customers for about 5 years and completely satisfied. They use the At&t network. They have the best service of any cellular with phone centers located in the USA and staffed by native English speakers. They do not work in Canada. However we bought a cheap Canadian pay as you go plan and changed the sim card in our iPhone. The cost for a month was less than $50 with free calling to and from the US. We purchased the service at a Rogers telephone shop. Can reactivate any time we return to Canada.
